Doctors from Birmingham Children's Hospital applied for an order to give the baby boy blood transfusions
A High Court judge has said a baby boy can undergo blood transfusions despite his parents' objections.
The baby has complex heart disease but his parents, who are Jehovah's Witnesses, said they could not consent to a transfusion on religious grounds.
Birmingham Children's Hospital had applied for an order to proceed with cardiac surgery and transfusions.
The judge, Mr Justice Keehan, heard the boy had no "long-term prospect of survival" without the surgery.
'Best interests'
The boy was born at the University Hospital of Coventry and Warwickshire on 7 February and placed in special care. He was transferred to intensive care in Birmingham the following day.
Although the baby's parents had agreed to surgery, they said they could not consent to their son receiving blood.
However, Mr Justice Keehan said receiving blood was in the boy's best interests, notwithstanding his parents' "understandable objections".
In a written ruling following a hearing in the Family Division of the High Court in London, he said: "I entirely understand and sympathise with the stance of these parents."
However, he added: "It is in [his] best interests to receive blood products both during the surgery and, if necessary, subsequent to it."

Thirty Years a Watch Tower Slave
by Londo111 ini just finished reading this and enjoyed it.
however, if i was newly awakening or on the verge of awakening, i dont think this book would have helped me a great deal.
brother schnell has some good thoughts, however, he is short on detail and description, and even shorter on proof and documentation.. it is interesting reading about the transition of the bible students from a small group of independent noncomformists into an organization characterized by total conformity.

I read Schnell's book about 25 years ago. I got it from the library. I had to put in a request and wait for weeks because it was so much in demand. When I finally collected it, the inside stamping page was covered with the stamp marks from many different libraries.

I'm afraid giving up JW's is similar to giving up smoking. You have to do it for yourself. The other person has to want to do it.

JW's Anti-Gay position puts them in the axis of ignorance
by scotoma indarkest area is most anti-gay.
perhaps they need to focus on those areas since they seem to agree with them on this issue.
jehovah.

I don't see what the argument is about. People will eventually follow their instincts and desires no matter how much their peers, social or religious group try to dissuade them. So condemnation is pointless.

Suggestion for title of final Final Talk from GB
by sparrowdown inok, so it's right before the big a.. gb are just about to depart heavenward but not before leaving us something to remember them by.. so after several rounds of rock, paper, scissors one of them goes up to the podium, adjusts his tie, clears his throat and says....... .
"so long, and thanks for all the fish".
now anyone familiar with hitch hikers guide to the galaxy would know that was.

Is the Watchtower Destroying All Thinking Skills of New Witness, Compare them to when you were in the Organization!
by RottenRiley inmany jws don't know the basic doctrines we all use to debate the clergy with.. .
jws don't know the bible, the know a few proof-texts but can't handle the bible like the witnesses of 1950s-1990s, what happened?.
the caliber of the new elders is horrible when compared with the elders of 1950s-1990s, they don't know how to use their bible, they are turning towards orgnazational minor details while ignoring the bible and gospel message.. .

My Dad was an old-style JW and a formidable adversary on Bibical subjects. He literally knew his Bible inside out. I think he'd struggle to prove the GB was now the FDS and that alone could have made him have second thoughts about the viability of the WT organisation.
He was so au fait with his Bible that he could give a public talk with only the scriptural references for notes. Once, after I'd left, he phoned me and I mentioned that I was suffering with piles. He immedediately quoted a scripture that stated somethimng about those deserting would have a sore arse - something like that anyway.
